Heatwave Alert Issued by IMD in Eastern India; Hailstorm Hits Punjab and Haryana; Rain in Arunachal Pradesh

Severe Heatwave Alert for Eastern India

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe heatwave alert for several states in eastern India, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Telangana, and Karnataka. Residents in these regions are urged to take precautions as temperatures soar.

    Heatwave Conditions Intensify

With temperatures rising rapidly, eastern India is experiencing intense heatwave conditions. The IMD warns that temperatures could reach alarming levels, posing health risks to the public. It’s crucial for residents to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

    Impact on Agriculture

The scorching heatwave is also expected to have a significant impact on agriculture in the affected states. Crops are at risk of wilting under the intense heat, leading to potential losses for farmers. Adequate measures must be taken to mitigate the impact on agricultural livelihoods.

    Hailstorm Strikes Punjab and Haryana

In contrast to the heatwave in eastern India, Punjab and Haryana witnessed unexpected hailstorms. The sudden weather phenomenon caught many residents off guard, causing damage to crops and property in the affected areas.

    Devastation in Agricultural Belt

The hailstorm wreaked havoc in the agricultural belt of Punjab and Haryana, where farmers were preparing for the upcoming harvest season. The unexpected weather event has raised concerns among farmers about crop damage and financial losses.

    Need for Relief Measures

As farmers grapple with the aftermath of the hailstorm, there is an urgent need for relief measures to support those affected. Government authorities and agricultural agencies must assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to affected farmers to help them recover from the losses incurred.

Rain Provides Respite in Arunachal Pradesh

Amidst the extreme weather conditions across India, Arunachal Pradesh received much-needed rainfall. The rain brought relief to residents grappling with heatwave conditions and provided a respite to the parched land.

    Boost for Agriculture

The timely rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh is expected to benefit agricultural activities in the region. Farmers can now expect improved soil moisture levels, which will facilitate better crop growth and yield. The rainfall also replenishes water sources, easing concerns about water scarcity.

  • Maidaan Box Office Collection Day 13: Disappointing Figures for Ajay Devgn’s Biopic

Maidaan Box Office Collection Day 13: Disappointing Figures for Ajay Devgn’s Biopic

Maidaan Box Office Collection Day 13: Underwhelming Performance

Ajay Devgn’s much-anticipated film ‘Maidaan’ hit the theaters with high expectations. After the success of his horror-thriller ‘Shaitan’ earlier this year, it was presumed that ‘Maidaan’ would also perform exceptionally well at the box office. However, it faced a cold response from the audience right from its release, leading to disappointing box office numbers. Let’s delve into the earnings of Ajay Devgn’s latest release on its 13th day.

    ‘Maidaan’ Collection on Day 13

The movie ‘Maidaan’ was released during Eid festivities. Despite much hype surrounding the film, it failed to garner much attention from the audience after its theatrical release. Consequently, the film struggled to perform well at the box office, especially in its second week.

    Earnings Breakdown

In its first week, ‘Maidaan’ managed to collect ₹28.35 crore. However, in the second week, the film’s earnings witnessed a significant drop. On the second Saturday, it earned only ₹2.65 crore, followed by ₹3.15 crore on Sunday. The earnings further dipped on Monday, with a 77.78% decrease, bringing in a mere ₹70 lakh.

    Day 13 Performance

According to early trend reports from Sacnilk, ‘Maidaan’ earned ₹71 lakh on its 13th day, which was a Tuesday.

    Total Collection

With this, the total collection of ‘Maidaan’ after 13 days stands at ₹37.01 crore.

Struggle to Reach ₹40 Crore Mark

Despite being in theaters for almost two weeks, ‘Maidaan’ has failed to cross the ₹40 crore mark. The film has seen a considerable decline in audience turnout, making it challenging to sustain its box office performance. Even after 13 days, the film hasn’t managed to surpass the ₹40 crore milestone.

    Challenging Times for ‘Maidaan’

‘Maidaan’ has faced a tough time at the box office. The film is struggling to attract viewers to theaters, resulting in limited earnings. Even reaching the ₹40 crore mark seems nearly impossible at this point.

    About ‘Maidaan’

‘Maidaan’ is a biopic based on the life of the famous football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Ajay Devgn plays the lead role in the film, with Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Rudranil Ghosh in pivotal roles.

Expanding Coverage: Government Initiates Work to Extend Ayushman Bharat Scheme

The Government’s Initiative to Widen the Scope of Ayushman Bharat

According to reports, the central government has begun work on expanding the scope of the government scheme Ayushman Bharat, which provides free treatment to the poor. As per the latest updates, all elderly citizens aged 70 and above will be eligible for the benefits of this scheme, regardless of their income.

Government Sets in Motion the Expansion Plans

A report from Live Mint, citing two government sources, has revealed that the government has initiated work to expand the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Preparation is underway to include all citizens aged 70 and above within the ambit of this scheme. Regardless of their income, senior citizens above 70 years of age will be entitled to the benefits of this initiative.

    Allocation in the Interim Budget

According to the report, following the announcement of election results in June, the government may officially declare an increase in the scope of the Ayushman Bharat scheme when it presents the full budget. Earlier this year, an interim budget was presented due to the Lok Sabha elections. In this interim budget, an allocation of Rs. 7,500 crore was made for the Ayushman Bharat scheme. This marked a 10% increase compared to the previous fiscal year.

    BJP’s Electoral Promise

If the claims made in Mint’s report are accurate, the government’s preparation becomes crucial as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has included this expansion in its electoral promises. Recently, BJP released its manifesto, called ‘Sankalp Patra’, for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while releasing the manifesto, pledged to extend the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme to all senior citizens aged 75 and above.

    PM Modi’s Announcement

Prime Minister Modi, while announcing the decision to expand the scope of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, emphasized on providing better healthcare to the people. He stated, “Elderly citizens are most concerned about how they will manage the expenses of their illnesses. This concern is even more serious for middle-class people. Our party has now resolved to extend the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme to all citizens aged 75 and above.”

    Benefits of Ayushman Bharat Scheme

The government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership introduced the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana during its first term. This scheme was launched in September 2018, a few months before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Ayushman Bharat scheme aimed to provide easy access to healthcare for the economically disadvantaged population. Currently, individuals with an annual income of less than Rs. 2.4 lakh are entitled to a medical insurance cover of up to Rs. 5 lakh annually under this scheme.

    Significance of Bada Mangal

According to Hindu mythology, it was during the month of Jyeshtha in the Treta Yuga when Lord Rama met the mighty Hanuman. This is why Tuesdays of this month are revered as Bada Mangal. Worshippers believe that on this day, Hanuman Ji blesses them and resolves all their troubles. Temples echo with devotional songs, and communities organize religious feasts (bhandara) to celebrate this auspicious day.

The tradition of celebrating Bada Mangal dates back to the reign of Nawab Saadat Ali (1798-1814). Legend has it that once Nawab’s son, Mohammad Ali Shah, fell severely ill. Despite all efforts, his condition didn’t improve. It was then suggested to the Nawab and his wife to pray for their son’s recovery at the Hanuman Temple in Aliganj, Lucknow. They followed the advice, and miraculously, their son’s health improved. In gratitude, the Begum promised to construct a temple. The temple’s construction was completed during the month of Jyeshtha, giving rise to the tradition of celebrating Bada Mangal.

  • Understanding Post-Stroke Depression: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

Understanding Post-Stroke Depression: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

    Post-Stroke Depression: A Dangerous Consequence

Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a severe condition that can often be life-threatening. Stroke not only affects the body but also has a profound impact on the mind. Depression in stroke survivors is considered a serious issue by medical professionals, warranting regular screenings. Let’s delve into what post-stroke depression really is and how it can be treated.

    Causes of Post-Stroke Depression

Post-stroke depression refers to depression that sets in after a stroke. There are several reasons attributed to it. Apart from the stroke itself, genetic, social support, and personality factors play a role. The sudden onset of paralysis can trigger emotional distress. Brain injury and neurochemical changes can lead to mood swings. Moreover, the stroke alters daily routines, which can affect family members who may have experienced depression prior to the stroke or who may have been depressed before.

    Symptoms of Post-Stroke Depression

According to health experts, some symptoms of post-stroke depression observed in hospitalized patients are similar to those of stroke itself. These include weight loss, fatigue, and changes in sleep patterns. Other symptoms include dysphoria, anhedonia, regret over past actions, lack of concentration, difficulty in decision-making, and suicidal thoughts. Around 30% of stroke patients experience difficulty speaking, which may contribute to depression.

    Changes in Post-Stroke Depression

According to health experts, patients with post-stroke depression tend to feel sad, have difficulty engaging in any activity, and find nothing enjoyable. A study in 2014 showed that the risk of depression after a stroke can be as high as 31%.

    Treatment of Post-Stroke Depression

According to health experts, the treatment for depression after a stroke should be based on biological, psychological, social, and rehabilitation factors. Some studies have found therapy to be effective in treating depression in stroke patients. Behavioral activation therapy is considered the most effective, based on joyful moments in life. It shows some positive outcomes. Attempts are made to increase the patient’s sense of self and make them psychologically stronger. Researchers believe that some moments in life are so good that they can help reduce depression. Along with this, techniques such as brain stimulation, RTMS (Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), and TDCS (Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation) have also been found effective in post-stroke depression.

    Medications for Post-Stroke Depression

In addition to psychotherapy, psychiatrists also use antidepressant medications for the treatment of post-stroke depression. These medications are also considered quite effective. However, regular monitoring of the patient is also necessary. It should only be taken after consulting a health expert.

    Challenges of Post-Stroke Depression

Health experts say that if post-stroke depression is left untreated, it can severely deteriorate the patient’s quality of life and even ruin their entire life. Therefore, appropriate treatment should be sought at the right time to prevent any future difficulties for the patient.
